Burn Injuries

Burns are serious injuries that require immediate medical care and attention.   Burns on the skin are most often caused by fire, steam, hot objects, or hot liquids, contact with electrical sources or chemicals, or hard surfaces.  Depending on the depth, size, cause, affected body area, age, and health of the victim, burns can also injure muscles, blood vessels, nerve endings, lungs and eyes.

The more common complications from burns are infections, pneumonia, cellulitis, urinary tract infections and respiratory failure.  While the American Burn Association National Burn Repository in 2015 puts the survival rate at 96.8%, burns are very painful injuries.  Burns often leave scars and deformities, such as loss of limbs, hands, fingers, feet, toes lips and ears, to name a few.
